Crewe Player Ratings

THERE was little to get excited about in the Carling Cup match with Crewe, but Jake Olley has run an eye over the Town players and given his verdict on them all.

Phil Barnes Did very little all game and did look slightly dodgy on more than one occasion.Though I feel that maybe this may be a result of the club not having a goalkeeping coach and a rather poor and inexperienced Rob Murray training him up before a game. This surely isn't the best preparation. 5
Tom Newey In my opinion didn't have a bad game and looked okay at the back. He threatened going forward and despite his performance not being good he still looked hungrier than most players. 7 MOM.
Gary Croft Again didn't do a lot wrong but still failed to impress. I have noticed recently there have been a few doubts over Macca but surely he is a better player than Crofty? 6
Justin Whittle Both him and Futcher struggled with the pace and silky passing from the Crewe frontline. They are not a comfortable partnership and that is why I believe Rodger needs to bring in a couple more decent centre backs to give us a chance this season. 5
Ben Futcher Looked clumsy throughout at the back and was run ragged by better opposition. He made a couple of decent challenges but is too inconsistent in my eyes. 5
Peter Bore Wasn't in the game for large parts but does seem a real winger who gets his boots white (not that they can get any whiter). He tries but I think a mixture of inexperience and lack of service was the reason for his lacklustre performance. 5
Peter Beagrie Wasn't the best performance but he seemed to link up well with Newey on a couple of occasions but still wasn't involved enough. 6
Paul Bolland Battled hard but still failed to find last season's form. He made numerous good tackles and seemed a bit more creative but still didn't look like the player he was last year. 6
Ciaran Toner Almost inconsistent, did very little and gave the ball away on far too many occasions. He needs to really improve before he can be consider a starter. 4
Gary Jones Again like Toner - where has our Lump gone? Didn't look like scoring or even getting close. Instead of Lumpaldinho I think we should now move onto Mikael Antione Lumpier. 4
Isaiah Rankin Looked sharp and had a very good effort saved. Can't help but think he always looks miserable though. Goals will come definitely however. 7
Subs
Reddy Missed a sitter. Some call it a good save but you should score from three yards out.
Ref Watch Very poor, gave a dodgy penalty. I've heard less whistles at the Grimsby Road carnival. 3
