Buckley Eyeing Loans

ALAN Buckley is looking to bring up to three loan signings to Blundell Park in time for Saturday's clash at high-flying Wycombe. With Buckley having had a whole week to assess his new squad, the Town boss's priorities are believed to be a centre back and a striker.

The new Town boss told Radio Humberside, "I've had enquiries going on pretty much all week. There's a possibility of up to three players, and I'm quite hopeful with two of them".

Buckley claims to have spent much of the last three years - since he was last employed as a manager at Rochdale - scouting, and hopefully this knowledge will be put to use when assessing possible loan signings. The Town boss made some fabulous signings for Grimsby in his first two spells at the club, many of who Town went on to sell (pre-Bosman) for large sums.

Grimsby are restricted to making loan signings until the transfer market re-opens in January, a month which may well prove to be an eventful one at Grimsby with players heading in both directions.

Grimsby head to Wycombe on Saturday, a ground where they have never won in 5 visits. The match will see Alan Buckley in charge of the team for the first time since August 2000, as No. 2 Stuart Watkiss was given that honour on Saturday with Buckley starting the game in the stands. A sizeable away contingent is once again expected to cheer the Mariners on, hoping to see further improvement from last weekend's promising 0-0 draw at Northampton in the FA Cup.
