Reddy To Leave Mariners

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 02/05/2007

MICHAEL Reddy will be leaving Blundell Park at the end of May when his contract expires. Alan Buckley explained his reasons for letting him go which had nothing to do with his ability.

Buckley told Mariners Net today; "The situation is somewhat different with Michael as opposed to the others who haven't been offered a deal. He hasn't kicked a ball in anger all season really and that was a factor. He had an operation early in the season and was rehabilitating when I arrived back at the club."

"He looked to be better around Christmas time and came off the bench. But he didn't look comfortable and was then back on the sidelines. His season just petered out and he has recently had another major operation. That played a part in our thinking of course."

"He will be on crutches for six weeks and then will have to start rehabilitation all over again. It means he could be out until Christmas. We could wait and see what happens but then we are without him for half a season again."

"We can't realistically wait that long in the hope he would return. We have to plan for next season without Michael. The decision has been made for us if you like. He is at the end of his contract and has already turned down a really good offer to stay earlier in the season."

"Maybe Michael himself wouldn't want to come back, I don't know."
