Ian Turner | 1971/72-1973/74 | 28 | 0 goals |
Young goalkeeper who ended up with a cup winners medal at Southampton. Signed by Lawrie McMenemy in the 71/2 season he always looked a good 'keeper in the 26 games he played over a couple of seasons. Harry Wainman was the regular No 1 and he proved difficult to replace so when McMenemy took Turner with him to Southampton it was no real surprise.
Unfortunately after the cup win his career then seemed to hit a downward spiral. He's almost forgotten now but I always rated him and for a while he was well known, and of course its fairly rare for an ex-Mariner to end up a winner in the Cup Final - will it ever happen again I wonder?
