THE Premier League have decided to give the Football League clubs £90million over the next three seasons to stave off accusations of greed. £9.9m in the first year will be directed to clubs for youth development.
Every club in the Premier League voted in favour of the commitment to the clubs in the Football League which is reported to be the first move in assisting the lower leagues clubs.
Gerry Sutcliffe, the new sports minister, said: "The Football League is one of the most watched and competitive of any in the world and the foundation on which the success of the Premier League depends. So it is right that some of the financial rewards from the Premier League's success are reinvested. I welcome this redistribution and in particular the new funding for community and youth-player development."
The distribution of the funds has not yet been announced but it will be based on the particular division each club is in. The higher the division, the higher the amount of cash they will receive.
Excellent news for Football League clubs who are to benefit from the success of the Premier League in which they have played no small part.
