TOWN’S first away game of the season sees them travel across the Pennines to beautiful Bury for what hopefully will prove to be Grimsby’s first three points of the season at Gigg Lane.

Overview

Bury have started well with a 2-1 win over Franchise FC where Andy Bishop’s spot kick set MK’s new stadium off to the perfect start for every football fan in England. On Tuesday night Bury continued with a good performance but ended up narrowly going down 1-0 to League 1 Carlisle who had just that week announced the shock sacking of their manager Neil McDonald. Both performances have breathed an air of optimism around Gigg Lane after last season's worrying tale. Finishing only two places off relegation Boston’s points deduction reveals just how close Bury came to leaving the Football League only ten years after facing us in Division One.

The Team
During pre season, manager, Chris Casper (above) and Director of Football, Keith Alexander have tried their best to improve on a side who nearly met its Football League end just four months ago. Ex-Grimsby defender and all round Keith Alexander follower Ben Futcher signed for the Shakers just weeks after the former afro Mariner joined on as Director. There were further signings of Richie Baker (Preston), James Dean (not that one obviously), Steven Haslam (Halifax), Paul Morgan (Lincoln), Jim Provett (Hartlepool) and the introduction of five youth players who Casper has put his faith in at the start of the season. All have been added in the hope that Bury can start climbing the league ladder after their plummet down it. With a blend of youth and experience the Bury team have become very attack minded with a competitive attitude. Naturally captain Dave Challinor (left) will come in for abuse after his shocking tackle on former Grimsby loanee Martin Pringle which saw the Charlton striker having to end his career as a result of the horrendous challenge. Challinor will lead his team out as he did when Bury lost 2-0 at Blundell Park in March during Town's great run on the way to mid-table obscurity.

Key Player
Andy Bishop: The former York City striker signed for the club at the beginning of last season. During the season the striker netted an impressive total of 20 before an injury cut his season short in April. As a result the former Walsall trainee has been followed closely by many clubs from higher up and after another successful season it isn't a risky bet to suspect "Bish" may leave for greener pastures by the end of the season. A strong runner and a great eye for goal the striker's partnership with Glynn Hurst has proved an answer to Bury’s goals shortage of late. With two already to his name against highly rated Franchise FC on the opening day and only playing the last 45 minutes the Town defence will have their hands full.

    Head to Head

Town narrowly have the edge over the Quakers in their 65 meetings since 1895, although both sides historically tend to do well at home against one another.
