Beat the Bookies: Week 17

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 06/12/2007

ADMIT it, you had started to doubt our tips! Well Beat the Bookies is now doing precisely that! Last week's win for Havant and Waterlooville at Notts County ensured we returned to profit after a shaky start to the season.

This week Grimsby travel to Brentford, whose recent form looks poor with just 1 draw to show for the last six games, someone actually doing worse than us. Although a closer investigation shows that two of those games were in the cup against Luton and the four league games were all against in-form teams (Peterborough, Darlington, Morecambe and Bradford). After Town's showing on Tuesday night and the widespread anticipation that Buckley will lose his job if Grimsby lose the game, how much will the Town players want to win the game? If Buckley has lost the dressing room then there can be only one result, a Brentford win at 11/10.

There are two other games in League Two which in our opinion are worth backing. The first is Wrexham to win at Dagenham and Redbridge. The Daggers have been dropping down the league like a stone and their recent form is abysmal. Wrexham have not been doing much better but they have been picking up the odd point of late, and even managed to beat Bury in their last game. The Red Dragons are 2/1 to win at Dagenham.

The other match is Hereford v Lincoln City. Although Hereford have been doing well recently and are having a great season, City are much improved of late and have won their last two games. Lincoln are long odds at 4/1 but are well worth a punt to make it three wins on the spin and pull themselves clear of relegation trouble.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Brentford to beat Grimsby (11/10, bet365).
  • 2. Wrexham to beat Dagenham and Redbridge (2/1, bet365).
