Beat the Bookies: Week 34

By: Rob Sedgwick

LAST weekend Town and Wrexham both missed their chances to win their games, which meant Beat the Bookies fired another blank. Let's hope we're still going to beat those bookies come May!

After being in the national limelight for a few days, Town head to Rochdale this weekend, down to earth with a bump in a run of the mill League Two fixture ignored by virtually all of humanity. It's hard not to imagine that the season is effectively over, but a win against Dale and other results going for us might give us a crumb of hope. The thing is Rochdale have a great record against us and their recent form is excellent, so it's going to take some doing to get one point let alone three. The bookies agree and it's hard to look past 10/11 for a home win - Town are 11/4.

Elsewhere in League Two there's not much on the coupon that jumps out at you. Rotherham have not won since they went into administration and they take on improving Brentford at home. With both clubs having just pride at stake, it's understandable if the Millers have their minds on other things and the Bees can head back to London with all three points. They can be backed at 19/10.

Mansfield finally won at home in midweek when they won the six pointer against Wrexham, who now look doomed. Suddenly Mansfield's league position looks much healthier and they certainly have the squad to get them out of trouble. But they need to win again at home and this weekend face Barnet, for whom the season is over. The Stags are 5/4 to pick up another three points.

Recommended Bets

  • 1. Brentford to beat Rotherham (19/10, bet365))
  • 2. Mansfield to beat Barnet (5/4, bet365))
