CHRIS KIWOMYA lined up in a young Town reserve team this afternoon when they took on Stockport County reserves. He was out to impress Paul Groves in the hope of earning himself a contract.

Town kicked off against a strong wind, and with the game barely two minutes old, they found themselves a goal down. A fine 30-yard strike from Hardy beta keeper Cranley who seemed to be a little too far off his line.
Town got themselves back into the game after nine minutes, when good work down the Town left gave Thompson the opportunity to finish from close range. Thompson seemed to be enjoying his midfield role, and his 30 yard effort was not too far off the mark as Town looked to take control of the game shortly after this, Kiwomya made his mark by putting Town 2-1 up with a shot from the edge of the 18 yard box after being set up by Rowan in the 28th minute.
Both sides were playing good football, and looked capable of adding to their goal tally at any time and indeed Town were indebted to young keeper Cranley when he made a fine save with the half just coming to it’s end.
Kiwomya was replaced around the hour mark, but he had shown some neat touches, scored a good goal and generally proved worth having another look at. The second half seemed to be totally different to start with, as the first real shot on goal didn't happen until the 69th minute when a fine effort from Downes just cleared the bar.
This effort seemed to liven the game up, as Town increased their lead after 75 minutes when a thunderbolt shot from Thompson smacked against the post and Rowan headed in the rebound from six yards out. Darren Mansaram replaced Raven shortly after this.
The County keeper was penalised for handling outside the area, and Thompson’s resulting free kick came close to increasing their lead. Three minutes later however Town did increase their lead when a spectacular effort from Mansaram flew into the top corner with the goalkeeper having no chance. A very fine effort, which was well received by everybody on and off the pitch.
So a good performance from the reserves, three points towards their aim for promotion and some good performances from the young players as well as Raven and Kiwomya. Kiwmoya will be well worth another try once he can prove his fitness.
