TOWN once again failed to score this afternoon at Macclesfield, for the fourth successive game. However it was not for want of trying after they hit the woodwork twice and had a goal disallowed. Amazingly neither side managed to find the net despite a string of chances at both ends.
New loan striker Ben Wright started for Town in place of Barry Conlon. Akpro started up front, with Coulson dropping back to the right side of midfield. Shahin therefore had to settle for a place on the bench.
Town had two early chances to take the lead. A Peter Sweeney free-kick was tipped wide by Jon Brain in the 4th minute. Two minutes later Wright got to the bye line and crossed to Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro, who bundled the ball into the net but was adjudged to have fouled a defender in the process. Akpro is still yet to score this season.
Macclesfield should have scored midway through the first half but Sinclair lost his balance in front of goal and fluffed the chance. The Silkmen then hit the bar from a Daniel free-kick.
With Macclesfield now on top Town almost scored on the break when midfielder Michael Coulson raced clear and unleashed a 30-yard shot which was tipped onto the crossbar by Brain.
Both sides had chances in the second half but Grimsby substitute Adam Proudlock came closest of all to giving Town three priceless points when drove the ball onto the upright after Macclesfield had failed to clear from a corner.
Macclesfield then somehow contrived to miss with three players unmarked in front of goal. The culprit was sub Matthew Tipton who drove over from eight yards with the goal at his mercy
The draw means Town have now gone 11 consecutive league games without a win as well as failing to score in the last four matches.
