Lennie's Woes

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 11/12/2000

Lennie Lawrence today commented on Saturday's loss to Tranmere Rovers. With 12 players on the injury list Lawrence said he needs new players. It seems unlikely that Lawrence will have any new faces on board by Wednesday night's fixture against Wimbledon so once again Town will field a scratch side.

On the Tranmere game he commented: "On the evidence of the second half it is not about systems or tactics but getting players, and whether they come out of the treatment room or outside, it is about getting players to improve on that second half performance, because they huffed and puffed but it was miles short. Faster, stronger players swept them aside. "I need players badly, really, really badly. Injuries are all a factor. We have 10 players in the treatment room and now we have got two more, so that is probably a record in my career in terms of a percentage of the squad." On Richard Smith's performance Lawrence said: "Considering it was his first game he did excellent. He fell to bits in the end, but he didn't make any crucial errors, and, especially in the first half, he did as much as anybody could have asked."
