Grimsby Town have been awarded the Scottish Mutual Performance of the week award after beating high-flying Preston last week. The Mariners fended off stiff competition from Arsenal and Coventry City in securing the Stuart Crystal Bowl.
The award ceremony will be transmitted this weekend during Sky Sports' 'Soccer Saturday' programme. A delighted Lennie Lawrence commented: "This was a very welcome Christmas present for us which didn't seem on when they scored so early in the game. It is even more of a bonus to have the victory recognised in this way." A panel consisting of Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Graham Taylor, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry awarded the accolade to the Mariners after also giving lengthy consideration to Arsenal after their 6-1 defeat of Leicester City, and Coventry, who over-turned Everton at the weekend.
