CLARE EXCLUSIVE

By: Stephen Bateman
Date: 12/01/2001

Robins boss Steve Cotterill has publicly announced his intentions to make Daryl Clare's move to Cheltenham a permanent one. After just one appearance for the Third Division outfit Cotterill has made it clear that he wants to secure the services of the Town striker on a full-time basis.

Clare will make his Whaddon Road debut as Cheltenham entertain Hartlepool tomorrow, but Cotterill appears to have already set his mind on capturing the unsettled Irishman's signature: "He has settled in very well here and gets about his job quietly. He worked hard in the 2-1 win at Torquay United and held the ball up well," With Clare's contract expiring in the summer, it seems likely that the former Irish Under-21 international may be tempted by the prospect of regular first-team action with the Robins. Cotterill made his intentions clear regarding Clare's future as he added: "He has a good first touch and good awareness, and all round is a good player. "I'd like to have him on a permanent basis."
