Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Simply The Best!

"We have got to be at our absolute best. If they, for some reason, are below par then we've got a good chance," said Grimsby manager Lennie Lawrence today, commenting on this evening's televised clash with Blackburn Rovers at Blundell Park.

"If we're not somewhere near our best for most of the game then we'll lose. If we start like we did on Saturday we'll get beaten for certain." Lawrence told the Grimsby Telegraph that he may use an attacking 4-3-3 lineup and call up Danny Butterfield. "I've got to decide on one or two changes in personnel and maybe a change in shape. The back four won't change but I've got to have a serious look at the rest of it."

He went on: "4-4-2 has worked quite well for us but do you try and sit there with a 4-4-1-1 and try and nick a goal, or do you play three in midfield and go for it? Those are my options."

"You look at what you've got and you have to say to yourself that we've only kept a few clean sheets in 20-odd matches, so what makes sense?," he said.

With even one point looking to guarantee survival, Lawrence made one final plea to the Mariners supporters.

"Hopefully we'll get six or seven thousand for this game. I must say they were as good as gold on Saturday. "I can't ask for much more from them, but they've got one last job. They've got to lift us up and dump us over the line."
