Andy Smith Joins Lincoln - Brigg Friendly Arranged

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 10/07/2001

FORMER Grimsby Town midfielder Andy Smith has joined Alan Buckley's Lincoln City on a month-to-month contract. The 21-year-old right-sided midfielder, who was on the Blundell Park books for just under a year without ever making the first team, has rejoined his former manager at Sincil Bank.

The Barnsley-born midfielder is the second player so far to have made the short trip to City, with veteran winger Kingsley Black having set the pace back in May, joining the Imps on a free transfer from Grimsby. Buckley's son Adam and Town's second choice keeper Steve Croudson have both been linked with moves to Lincoln in recent weeks, but no announcements have made to date about either player.

Andy Smith Profile

Grimsby's match with Lincoln City in the First Round of the Worthington Cup on Tuesday 21st August 2001 (7:45pm KO) has been made all-ticket for visiting supporters due to a larger than expected away contingent. The fixture has sparked local interest from both sets of fans due to the fact that the match is a local derby, and the prospect of witnessing in a one-off cup encounter the return of Alan Buckley to the club where he spent most of the last 12 years in charge.

The Mariners have arranged a pre-season friendly at Brigg Town's The Hawthorns on Monday 13th August (7pm). Town trimphed 3-1 over the Zebras in the equivalent fixture last year in their first pre-season game of the 2000-2001 campaign.
