Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

LL on Coventry Victory - Beherall Loan Extension

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 10/09/2001

"No, the table's not upside down" quipped Lennie Lawrence after Town maintained their second spot in Division One with the defeat of crisis club Coventry City.

The Sky Blues, who today were without a manager after Gordon Strachan quit "by mutual consent" were defeated by a Phil Jevons lob.

The goal came from a schoolbook goalkeeping howler by City's Marcus Hedman as he attempted to dribble the ball out of his box under pressure from Rowan, only for it to fall at the feet of the former Everton striker, who cooly dispatched the ball into the empty net.

Lawrence felt Town had missed out on the opportunity to take all three points after failing to capitalise on their dominant spells in the first 45 minutes. "On the general play we deserved a draw" said the Town boss. "We had the better of the chances in the first half, and we were rueing the fact we had three clear chances in the first half and missed the lot, and thought we had missed the boat."

DAVID BEHERALL (left) has signed for another month on loan from Newcastle, although the Magpies will not allow the central defender to play in tomorrow's Worthington cup tie with Sheff Utd. Blackburn defender Marlon Broomes (right) stands by to deputise.
