Forest Preview

By: Richard Hubbert
Date: 14/09/2001

AS Town go out tomorrow looking for all three points after the season's terrific start, manager Lennie Lawrence has been given a selection headache. The impressive midweek cup performance at home to Sheff Utd has meant that many players will be hoping to retain their place in the starting line up.

Grimsby Team News

First of all, defender Marlon Broomes, on loan from Premiership side Blackburn Rovers, is the most likely to drop to the bench, despite a commanding display at the back on Tuesday night. After playing just reserves games before he joined up with Town, he was described as "legless" by boss Lennie Lawrence after the dramatic cup win, and "will be too tired to start against Forest".

This means that the "other" Town loanee, David Beharall will rejoin Paul Groves at the heart of the defence, where they have built such a solid partnership at the back. Tony Gallimore and John McDermott will also continue at full backs barring any last minute injuries. In the engine room, midfielder Wayne Burnett gave Lennie Lawrence some food for thought with an assured display on Tuesday night, but the fact that he was sacrificed for striker Bradley Allen, suggests that a return for Dutch maestro Menno Willems is likely.

Whichever player is selected, they will partner Danny Butterfield. On the wing, Alan Pouton, who Lennie Lawrence said earlier this week was "in the nicest possible way, he's a bit of a loose cannon" will continue on the right, while Scotsman Stuart Campbell will continue on the left midfield role, where he has performed so admirably, so far this season.

The real question comes up front, where Jon Rowan and Phil Jevons started on Tuesday night, until Rowan went of unconscious. Rowan has now declared himself fit, but Lennie Lawrence still rates him as "doubtful" and a place on the bench is the more likely option. This means a chance for either Michael Jeffrey or Bradley Allen who both scored on Tuesday night, to partner ex Everton player Phil Jevons.

It is probable that Jeffrey will get the nod, whose physical presence is somewhat more of an asset to the team than Allen's poaching ability. Allen will more than likely start on the bench and come on as a third striker in the event of an injury. If indeed there are any injuries before Saturday afternoon to any of Town's strikers, then new signing Michael Boulding will step in. Signed this week on a free transfer, after making 66 appearances for Mansfield, Boulding will add some much needed pace to Town's attack, giving boss Lennie Lawrence an extra dimension up front, should he need it.

Prediction For Game

Well, once again I'll have to go Town's way! Who's going to say we loose and think that they won't get slated on the messageboards? So, I'll got for a 2-1 Town victory with Rowan coming on to net the winner.

Fishy prediction: 2-1 to Town. Reader's POMs
