Town Game Ordered To Be Replayed

GRIMSBY TOWN Youth have been ordered to replay the Scunthorpe United game which was abandoned by the two clubs bosses who feared for the safety of their players due to the referee's failure to adequately control the game.

Ian Knight and Paul Wilson both agreed to withdraw their sides 18 minutes from time after three red cards had been issued and referee Gunhill failed to dismiss two players for 'leg-break tackles'.

Scunthorpe were winning 1-0 when the game was abandoned and their manager, Brian Laws, was not impressed by the refs conduct.

"We have a responsibility to protect these young players. It's their careers at stake," he said. This referee was failing to do that. We were appalled at his management of the game."

Both clubs sent strong protests to the governing body, criticizing the refs performance.
