Groves On The Ref!!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 11/02/2002

PAUL GROVES, Grimsby Town's manager, spoke about the offside that never was which resulted in the second goal that killed off the Mariners chances of gaining any points from the game against Watford.

"It is self explanatory really, everybody stopped and the referee decided to carry on. In our opinion their player was three or four yards offside, but our opinion doesn't matter" he said

"I've had a discussion with the referee after the game but that is better off left indoors. He gave his reasons to me for his decisions, they are his reasons and they are his decisions and that's it really."

"I'm disappointed with the overall result and there's no point in me having a go at the referee, that's what we are dealt with and we have to get on with it."

Groves also confirmed that Robert Taylor has an Achilles injury and said that his loss had changed the game for Town. "It changed us as a team, he is a presence for us and he stops the ball coming back so quickly. We will now monitor him when he goes back to Wolves during the course of the period he is out, with regards to his injury."
