Question of the Week

Who will win League 2?

Premier Player For Town?

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 14/02/2002

PAUL GROVES, Grimsby Town's manager, has agreed terms with a premiership club for one of their players. The player, who so far has not been named has been offered terms by Grimsby and is considering the offer.

With Robert Taylor returning to Wolves this move was not unexpected and it will be interesting to see if the player is a straightforward replacement for Taylor or someone to play in another position.

With recent performances, there is a wide choice but one would expect a front player to be the highest priority.

An announcement is expected shortly.

Dan Humphrey of the Fishy says: Although this is all the information available at the moment, it seems likely to be either a centre-forward to replace Taylor, or a winger. Earlier this year, Groves announced he had tried to get John Oster on loan from Sunderland before his injury problems.

It was a similar stage last season that the Mariners attempted to bring in various strikers - Lee Matthews of Leeds (now at Bristol City) and Andy Campbell of Middlesbrough were both linked - before settling on Luke Cornwall of Fulham. Cornwall's goals helped keep the Mariners in the Division. Could history repeat itself?

Cornwall has not been in the Fulham line-up this season.....
