Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

None But The Brave!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 15/03/2002

PAUL Groves has called for courage from his side if they want to get something out of the Wolves game tomorrow. "We can't afford to go there and be kamikaze. With the quality they've got they can hurt us," he said.

"We have to be mentally strong and there will be periods where we are under pressure. But we have to be brave and get on the ball and play our game." Groves told the Grimsby Telegraph.

"It will be even harder with a 27,000 crowd in front of us baying for decisions for them. But we go into it in good form and we're optimistic. There will be a massive expectation on their shoulders.

"That can help us if they start to turn against them, but it could also be a massive help to them as we've seen at home in the last few games. If their fans get behind them, lift them and help them build a head of steam it will be harder for us."

On Dean Sturridge and Nathan Blake: "They are as big a threat as we've faced. But we faced the top pair in the division in Crystal Palace's Dougie Freedman and Clinton Morrison and limited them to virtually nothing.

"We can all take the positives from that and when you look at the team now they have experience of it. Most of them have played 100-games plus, so at some stage they've all tasted this before."

On tactics he told Mariners Net: "It's something that we'll be looking at in the next 24 hours, however, we approach it, we will be looking to get some sort of result from the game."

"You sometimes see different scenarios arising through the game so that may change as to who is placed on the bench. We have shown good form but we are playing against a quality side, so we know how difficult it is going to be, but we can go into the game with a lot of optimism because of our form of late.

Grimsby Town: Coyne, McDermott, Groves, Todd, Gallimore, Butterfield, Pouton, Burnett, Campbell, Allen, Boulding, Croudson, Jevons, Ford, Coldicott, Rowan, Raven, Chapman.
