Wales Cap Danny Coyne!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/03/2002

DANNY Coyne, Grimsby Town's greatest asset, today received his second cap for Wales. Coyne who has been Grimsby's saviour over the last few seasons has been overlooked by Wales for far too long but has finally got his award due to Mark Crossley withdrawing from the game against the Czech Republic.

Brought on in the second half to replace Wales surprise first choice 'keeper Darren Ward, Danny kept a clean sheet with Wales playing a better second half. The game finishing 0-0.

Grimsby Town fans will be delighted to hear that Danny has been rewarded with another cap. He has been one of the outstanding and most consistent goalkeepers in the first division for the last three seasons and the fans favourite.

It will be somewhat surprising if Grimsby Town do not receive offers for Danny in the Summer as he has been watched by a number of premier league clubs and his brilliant performances for the Mariners would not have escaped attention.

This must further boost Danny's confidence and comes at a time when it will be most needed with two tough games coming up over the Easter Period.

Well done, Danny Coyne. The fans salute you!!
