Croudson Injury Blow For Mariners!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 08/05/2002

The Grimsby Telegraph dropped a bombshell today by reporting that Town's second goalie could miss the start of next season following surgery on his shoulder. The "simple" surgery to his shoulder has turned out to be more serious than first thought.

Specialists have discovered some cartilage damage and were forced to operate again meaning he will be laid up for some time.

Under normal circumstances this would create a problem but a loan or out of contract player could be drafted in for cover. But with the rumours surrounding the possible transfer of Coyne with Lennie Lawrence in particular being singled out as a possible buyer, it will create deeper problems for manager Paul Groves.

Croudson said "I'm devastated. I thought it was a chipped bone, but the specialist put a camera in and discovered something wrong with the cartilage. I've always thought it wasn't that serious but the doctor said that every time I've been banging it I've been dislocating it. I've probably done that more than 10 times and it could have made it worse by leaving it so long.

I feared the worst when he told me what it was. I thought he was going to tell me I was finished. I was nearly crying!"

"I've got a sling on for the next three weeks and I can't do anything. My arm is strapped to my chest so I'm useless - my wife is even tying my shoelaces for me! I've got to sit and do nothing for three weeks and then it will be rehab work after that. I hate missing training even for one day.

"I'm just trying to keep smiling because it's my first injury and, touch wood, I've been lucky in that respect. It will be three months before I'm ready but I want to be back for the start of the season. I need to be back for that because it's a big season for me.

"But I have to get right and it's an injury that can't be rushed."
