Have G14 Learnt the Error of Their Ways?

THE announcement that the G14 are prepared to salary cap and reduce squad numbers to 25 is maybe a realisation of three major problems.

Home > Features > Have G14 Learnt

  • A. Fan bases for big clubs have peaked
  • B. Finances are being squeezed beyond the world football budget
  • C. Domestic competition stifling is harming the game.

There is no question global football is under threat of a total collapse if action is not taken. For a number of years competition domestically has taken a major jolt. Major clubs in various leagues down the years have constantly bought their rivals' stars enabling then to guarantee their Champions League/UEFA cup places season after season.

Man Utd third team could easily walk into any premier side. Squads of G14 sides have grown to huge proportions of 70-100 players. Celtic and Rangers are prime examples of what happens when domestic competition is pillaged and destroyed. Other nations have similar problems to such a degree the European qualifiers are now known before a ball is kicked in anger.

Football is now in such a serious problem that it is fast rivaling Formula 1 in terms of guaranteeing its runners and positions. The threat that this could cause is disastrous. Ultimately if the footballing federations don't address these issues soon, fan bases will dwindle, TV revenue/sponsorship will suffer and a global football crash will ensue. Have the G14 realised before the football federations the implications of their actions?
