Hull City 2 Grimsby Town 1

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 26/07/2002

LOCAL rivals Hull City triumphed 2-1 over the Mariners with a brace by City's Lawrie Dudfield putting the Tigers 2-0 up, before Phil Jevons grabbed a late consolation for Town. Former Sunderland striker Craig Russell started the game after arriving on trial from St Johnstone.

Town assistant manager Graham Rodger told Mariners Net: "A very good workout from a fitness point of view. We're not too happy with the two goals, but it was a very good workout.

"I honestly can't remember them having any chances apart from the two they took and scored. We created a few chances, not enough to be honest, but we need to be converting these chances into goals."

Trialist Lee Sharpe did not appear for the Mariners in the friendly, as the fomer Man Utd midfielder chose to curtail his involvement at Blundell Park after just one day.
