Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Jevons: Keep Me Here

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 01/08/2002

THERE are those who say that players will not come to Grimsby Town, but if recent events are anything to go by, players do not want to leave!! Phil Jevons today joined Danny Coyne in pleading to stay at Blundell Park!

The Grimsby Telegraph interviewed Jevons after his former club Everton deferred the next instalment of his £250,000 fee until the end of the season, and he is hoping that Town can take him off the transfer list.

^p^p "I hope I can come off the transfer list now. If that money that is owed to Everton was a major part of the decision to put me on the list, then hopefully I can come off it now. I know for a fact that I'm not the second highest paid player at the club, so it must have been about the money they owed."

^p^p "If that's gone away for a while, hopefully I can come off the list and knuckle down and concentrate on playing."

^p^p "I feel like I've got a lot more to offer. I played half of last season with a knee injury and I've got more to show to the fans. They haven't seen the best of me yet and I want to get in the team and show them what I can do. Grovesy has said that the football side has nothing to do with the financial situation."

^p^p "I'm grateful to Everton for what they've done, and it's a good little boost for the club."
