Dr Fishy's Player Of The Year - Final Week

AFTER weeks of waiting, it's finally here. Nine editions have been published, and now we move on to the last one. This week's column will reveal who my Player of the Season is.
First let me remind you the order of players so far, starting from the bottom and working upwards. Burnett (no club), Willems (back in Holland), Jeffrey (released), Jevons (recently taken off the transfer list).
Coldicott, Butterfield (Crystal Palace), Campbell, Gallimore, Groves, Chapman (Boston), McDermott, Ford, Rowan, Pouton, Broomes (no club), Allen (no club), Boulding (Aston Villa), and Todd (Blackburn).
In second place is a player currently at Boundary Park, Oldham. He arrived at Blundell Park on loan from Newcastle, and was here for three months and played alongside Groves in central defence.
David Beharall sneaks the second place slot by just one game, because just like Todd, Beharall got an average grade of B- and a rating of 9.1 out of ten but was marked ten times, rather than nine like Todd.
Beharall received a B- grade 30 % of the time, and his best mark was the A- he was given for his performance at Coventry in Town's 1-0 win. His worst grade was a C, coming in the 2-0 home defeat to Rotherham.
His best run was obviously over the 10 games he was graded in, and his worst run was over just two games, underlying his strength in gaining B grades. In total he received one A, six Bs and three Cs, and he is Dr Fishy's runner-up this season (but it would have been unfair to give him an award anyway because he was a loan player).
And so, after much waiting and many meaningless statistics brought to you over the summer, we finally get on to the number one player, and if you haven't already guessed, it is none other than Danny Coyne.
For Coyne to come top of the list of 20 is more of an achievement than first thought. In a game where Town played well, and Coyne was not called upon (this was rare), he would only be marked on his performance, and for keepers, well, they're not always involved in games.
But he still comes top, with an average grade of B- and 9.1 out of ten, but he was marked 41 times throughout the season. Fans' Player of the Year, my Player of the Year, everybody's Player of the Year.
He received a B- grade 22% of the time, and his best grade was an A (twice, once at Preston), his worst grade being a C- (Walsall away, when, to be fair, C- was the equivalent of an A).
His best run was over all the 41 games he was graded in, and his worst run was just three games (on two occasions). Basically, it took him no more than three games before he got a B.
This site is by the fans, for the fans, and we will consider articles on any subject relating to the Mariners whether it be related to current news, a nostalgic look back in the past, a story about a player, a game or games in the past, something about Blundell Park or football in general.
