Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

League Websites Are Safe!

THE Football League's internet partner, Premium TV (PTV), today announced they were in line with their targets despite sacking a further 20 employees bringing their total staff cuts to 120.

The firm claimed the workforce was being slashed again in order to make them "more financially stable" and managing director Rod Henwood, assured the League there was no chance of a collapse such as experienced with the ITV Digital fiasco - which left club chairmen with a £131.9m shortfall. But Last year PTV renegotiated their agreement with the League to pay the remaining £35m of the £65m package, when revenue was generated rather than in quarterly payments.

"There have been 20 staff made redundant, predominantly in our technical and administrative departments. There was no pre-set plan in terms of redundancies but this restructure will make the business more financially stable."

"I've reviewed all aspects of our business operation and looked at where we needed to concentrate our resources. We invested time and money in our technical platform, which is now complete and robust. So we've had a restructure to focus on revenue generation and servicing our club partners."

"We've been working closely with the League over the last few weeks and shared our plans with them and the clubs, the League wanted to make sure the growth path they realised with a commercial partner was more financially robust. They wanted to be clear we would maintain our necessary service levels and continue to grow. And we're broadly in line with our targets."

PTV claim to have a total of 1.4million registered users across their 80 club websites and 37,000 subscribers paying for extra content in the 'World' sections of each site.
