Town Sign Crane!

Date: 09/06/2003

TONY Crane had been named as Paul Groves first new signing of the summer. The aptly named 6'5" utility player can play in either central defence or midfield. A product of Sheffield Wednesday's youth system who was released by the Owls in May, Crane appeared on the Fishy's "Who Will He Buy" list.

The 20-year-old Liverpudlian made a total of 24 league starts for Sheffield Wednesday, his only club, over the previous four seasons, netting four goals in the process. He has also appeared as a substitute for the Owls on another 24 league outings, plus has made several cup appearances for the South Yorkshire club.

The board have promised to bring in ten new faces before pre-season training begins, of which Crane is just the first. "He will be looking to stake a claim and will bring competition. He's a new face to us, and isn't one that's been here on loan before or anything like that," said Paul Groves today, before his first signing was officially named.

More new players are expected to arrive at Blundell Park as the summer progresses. Some of their names might well be in the Fishy's Who Will He Buy? series, as was Tony Crane (pictured below).
