Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Midfielder By Monday!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 28/06/2003

PAUL Groves hopes to have a new signing on Monday. An un-named midfielder is expected to join them for pre-season training and it is hoped he will sign a deal with the club.

Fans will be hoping that it is Georges Santos but latest reports were that his agent was on holiday.

The Grimsby Connection

In other news, former Grimsby and Scunthorpe winger Tony Ford has been appointed as assistant manager to ex Mariners boss Alan Buckley at Rochdale. Ford was sacked along with Steve Parkin by Barnsley last season.

Former Lincoln City footballer Adam Buckley was sentenced to 120 hours of community service by the court at Lincoln, after admitting stealing from other players at Sincil Bank.

It was alleged that he stole a pair of trainers, a pair of football boots, a mobile phone and a watch between August 2001 and January this year.

There have been no further developments so far in the negotiations with Phil Jevons, but it is understood that his agent has had talks with Everton Football Club regarding the appearance money that the Mariners would have to pay Everton if he plays again.

If a satisfactory agreement can be reached, Jevons, who has agreed to take a pay cut, may soon be seen again on the Blundell Park pitch.
