Question of the Week

Next England manager?

Good Times Ahead!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 27/08/2003

PAUL Groves is delighted with the two wins over the long weekend. "It's an excellent return and I felt in the second half it was a decent performance. I'm pleased more for the supporters. It's been a long, long time since they've been able to witness something like that - probably over a season.

"You have to go back to the Ipswich game. We scored three goals and the pleasing thing was that we could have scored more. We kept it tight at the back and I was pleased for the fans. They were able to see goals and a winning side; especially after a disappointing first home game against Port Vale."

Striker Jonny Rowan also talking to the Grimsby Telegraph told Stuart Rowson; "I enjoyed being back. I let myself down last year and basically this year it make-or-break for me."

"I've got to prove that I should be in the team, I felt heavy-legged toward the end but the sharpness will come with matches. If I can get a few more games on the back of this it will come - and hopefully so will the goals."

"I was desperate to score. The manager has been on at me saying that I'm a striker and strikers are judged on goals. I got a couple in pre-season and now I've got a taste I just want to score goals. I hope I've done enough to earn a place on Saturday, but you never know. Let's hope so."

Stuart Campbell said "Nobody is going to get carried away with the weekend's results."

"I'm sure we will all stay focused. No one can shout their mouths off at this club about promotion - but if you ask the lads then that's our aim. That's what we want individually and collectively."

"Now it's important for us to keep that winning mentality. It's all changed very quickly over the weekend but we have to keep it going."
