A chilly afternoon saw just a few hardy souls turn up to watch the reserves' first home game of the season against York City.

The first half was easily forgettable except for two reasons. Firstly, the nasty looking injury to Giovanni Carchedi when he clashed with the goalkeeper whilst trying to open the scoring, and then the 35th minute opening goal from Chris Bolder.
The remainder of the half saw Town restricted to long-range efforts, although it was heartening to see that there were plenty of these, even if the goalkeeper was exactly overworked. Town’s keeper Pettinger was even less in the action, not even enough to keep himself warm on a chilly August afternoon. Chris Hyams replaced Darren Mansaram in the 25th minute, but no obvious reason for the change was evident.
The second half saw an improved performance from the Town youngsters, and within just a few minutes of the restart, they went 2-0 up with a goal form substitute Liam Nimmo after good work by Ward. Nimmo missed an easy chance to increase the lead, but Mark Newton made no mistake when he scored from close range after a goalmouth scramble.
Town created more chances in the latter stages, but the score remained at 3-0 and the unimpressive visitors hardly tested the Town keeper at all except for a few weak efforts. John McDermott played for well over an hour before being replaced, and Chris Bolder left the field before the end leaving Town to play the last few minutes with ten men.
There were some good performances in the game, but they are sure to be better tested in future games and this is when we will see if they are ready to enter the battle to get out of the Second Division.
Town. Pettinger, McDermott (Newton), Edwards, Young, Wheeler, Ward, Hildred, Boulder, Hockless (Nimmo), Carchedi, Mansaram (Hyams)
Subs not used. Hughes, Parker
