Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

"No disrespect to the likes of Grimsby..."

sunday 5th october

Grimsby 3 Clarets 1

From South West Clarets Newsletter

Truly, truly awful. There can be no excuses and enough is enough. If I can get up at 6am and with six other fellow Clarets make a nearly 600 mile round trip at considerable joint cost, I expect and deserve better than this.

Performances since Christmas have been on the whole, awful, and problems should have been, addressed. Today we were taken to pieces by a bits and pieces side ( and I mean no disrespect to Grimsby who are a smashing club) that survive on the breadline, year after year. True, they are a form side but this is less important than the fact that we are definitely not.

Attendances

From football365.com

"Dear official Grimsby Town website: Why do we always announce the attendance at every home match? This always gets cries of derision from the away fans, so why give them the pleasure? Signed Glenn McLachlan." You shouldn't laugh. But feel free to do so.

When Managers attack

From BBC Sport

Bonetti was beloved of Grimsby fans for part-funding his transfer to the club from Serie A.

Sadly Mariners boss Laws did not feel quite the same level of affection towards the aged Italian, and reacted to a 3-2 defeat at Luton in February 1996 by throwing a plate of chicken wings at him instead.

Skilful footballer though he was, Bonetti was unable to shift himself out of the way, clocked the wings and plate full in the face and hit the deck with a fractured cheekbone.
