Posh Bid For Boulding!

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 16/01/2004

PETERBOROUGH boss Barry Fry has revealed that Town refused an offer of £50,000 for Mick Boulding and says he will wait until the summer to get him, unless there is an auction.

The Grimsby Telegraph who reported the Fry Statements said: "Boulding has a clause in his contract that states he must be allowed to speak to clubs who offer above £45,000, but it is thought that may only be activated by a club from a higher division."

"It was 50 grand up front and I would have given them a percentage of a sell-on," said Fry. "Some of my directors spoke to the Grimsby directors when they were down here. I got hold of the Grimsby chairman and made a bid and they turned it down. That is the end of it for now."

"If they come and phone me up and say they'd accept what I'd offered then it would be back on. But I can't up my offer. I can't do nothing."

"I've brought Clive Platt in but he's a different sort of player. When I've seen Boulding he's quick and a good finisher and would be ideal to play with Platty."

"I had a bit of money because I sold Leon McKenzie (to Norwich) but obviously most of that had to go back into the club."

"I'll try and talk to the boy and his agent in the summer. But then the problem is that I'll be in an auction and I don't win too many of those!"

"I think Boulding is a quality player but, if I'd got over the hurdle with Grimsby, I think I still might have had another one to jump with the lad and his wages."
