Rankin to Sign?

NICKY Law is hoping to sign Isaiah Rankin on a free transfer before Thursday's deadline, in addition to bringing in another loan player to strengthen the squad. Rankin is available on a free transfer, and Town are expected to offer him a contract until the end of the season.

Although the 26-year-old is still struggling with an injury, he is expected to be shortly available again for first team action, and could be named in the Chesterfield squad should he sign a contract with the Mariners.

The Barnsley striker is unlikely to be welcome back at Oakwell after his goal celebrations in front of the Tykes management and supporters during the 6-1 defeat of Town's Yorkshire rivals whilst on loan with Grimsby.

The permanent signing of Rankin before Thursday's deadline would free up another loan slot, at least one of which Nicky Law is likely to try and exercise this week.
