Date: 29/03/2004

THIS site is written by fans for fans and the latest installment of the new series of Cod Head of the Week is Stu Cox.

Home > Features > Cod Heads > Stu Cox

We regularly need new Cod Heads, so would appreciate contributions from lifelong supporters of the Mariners. This week's Cod Head is Stu Cox.

Fishy:
Tell us a bit about yourself.

Stu:
Stu Cox (16) lives in Grimsby and a season ticket holder with the Mariners.

Fishy:
When did you first start supporting the Mariners, and what was your first game?

Stu:
When I was about 5 or 6 I started supporting them. My first match was a 2-1 win against Notts County in either the 94/95 or 95/96 season.

Fishy:
Who is the best player you ever saw wearing a Grimsby Town shirt?

Stu:
Without a doubt Clive Mendonca - guarantee a few goals when he was around.

Fishy:
If there is one game you were allowed to go back in time and watch what would it be and why?

Stu:
Grimsby's 6-2 win against Wimbledon as we went 1-0 down and showed our true fighting spirit and walloped the Dons.

Fishy:
What are your favourite and least favourite away grounds?

Stu:
I've only been to 3 away matches in my life best though what I've been to Blackpool worse then Peterborough.

Fishy:
What, in your opinion, are GTFC's best and worst seasons since you have been supporting them?

Stu:
97/98 easily the best season for any young Town fan.
The worst is 02/03. I didn't see Town win, I only went to 8 games though.

Fishy:
What is the most eventful day you have ever had in the course of following the Mariners?

Stu:
Wembley easily AWS final great atmosphere and sightseeing before hand. Nothing can beat a good bit of Wembley.

Fishy:
What is the strangest thing you have ever done at a game?

Stu:
When we played Blackpool at their place this season I asked the stewards if I could go onto the pitch and show these lads how to take a proper penalty. I asked the steward but he swiftly ....... refused.

Fishy:
Who is the greatest ever GTFC manager?

Stu:
In my eyes Alan Buckley made us be the most successful team at Wembley (we ever lost) and helped us quite a bit.

Fishy:
How many games a season do you get to now, and what do you do while Town are playing games that you can't get to?

Stu:
I go to as many as possible this season I have only missed 1 home match (QPR FA cup) and been to 3 away games. When I'm not there I watch Gillette soccer Saturday or if something else is getting watched I flick on Ceefax.

Fishy:
Name your all-time starting eleven since you have been watching Town?

Stu:

Coyne
McDermottHandysideSantosBarnard
CampbellShakespearePoutonOster
MendoncaWoods
Manager: Alan Buckley

Fishy:
What's the best-ever atmosphere you remember at a home and away game?

Stu:
The best atmosphere was Grimsby v Norwich (02/03) I started the Upper Smiths singing "You're Not Singing Anymore"!.
The worst atmosphere Town v Swindon (03/04) hardly anyone was present and when you whispered it echoed!

Fishy:
Do your children support the Mariners?

Stu:
No but when I have some I'm sure I will get them too whatever division they are in !!!
