Sven for Grimsby!

By: Jon Mjedsson

THE Fishy has managed to lay its hands on a copy of Sven Goran Eriksson's new England contract, and it has revealed some surprising clauses.

It appears that if the philosophical Swede wishes to leave his position as England coach after the Euro 2004 tournament in Portugal and join the Mariners, he is free to do so.

The clause in question states that if Sven is approached by certain specified clubs, he can be released from his England contract. Although he would not be allowed to leave until after the 2006 World Cup in Germany to go to either Chelsea or Manchester United, he could leave this summer to become coach of several Nationwide clubs, including Grimsby Town.

Another clause that the Torsby-born coach has had inserted ensures a regular supply of his beloved meatballs and pickled herring sauce to be suppled by the FA as part of his multi-million pound salary. Were he to come to Grimsby, I don't know whether we could supply the Scandinavian with pickled herring sauce, but I'm sure a lifetime's supply of haddock could be arranged!

We wonder what Eriksson's partner, Nancy dell'Olio, will do if he comes to Grimsby. Regrettably, the dark Italian will not be able to be a quality control officer in the pizza factory, as it closed in recent years.

The Fishy has tried to phone the Football Association regarding Sven's contract, but no-one was available for comment today.
