Town's Youngsters Brushed Aside

IT was same again at Blundell Park as Town’s youngsters were easily brushed aside by a far more experienced visiting Doncaster Rovers team. This was the last home game for the young reserve team, some of whom were maybe being assessed to see if they are good enough to be retained for next season.

There were several Doncaster fans sitting in the main stand, and judging by comments made by one of them, it seems they were worried their team would be relegated if they had lost, something hard to understand as there is no Division Two in the reserve league. The team the visitors did put out however, was filled with players with first team experience and their size and strength was too much for the much more inexperienced smaller Town side.
It took the visitors just six minutes to open the scoring, with their first effort on goal, and after this is was just a case of how many Doncaster would score. Town’s only on goal effort of the half fell to Antoine-Curier, who shot straight at the keeper, to force him to make his only save of the half. Shortly after this, the visitors increased their lead, to end any hope of a chance for Town to get back into the game. The visitors missed an easy chance to go into the break with a three-goal lead, but they were certainly well worth the lead when the half time break came.
The second half mirrored the first, as the visitors continued to dominate, and it was no surprise when they added a third after 72 minutes. This ended the scoring, and gave the visitors the win that their supporters seemed to think that they needed.
It can only be imagined that the youngsters have been put in at the deep end to see if they are up to a higher grade football, and to assess those that will be kept on for next season. Several first team squad players who could have played had been left out for the last few games, and it has been very noticeable that Mr Law has not been attending any of the last few reserve team outings. From a great start to the season, it now seems that the reserve team will be lucky to avoid finishing in the bottom two of the league.
