Question of the Week

Is football a business or a sport?

Town 0 Bristol Rovers 0

TOWN drew 0-0 with Bristol Rovers this afternoon in a disappointing game with few chances and little action. With most of the highlights during the first half, the introduction of Colin Cramb after the break coincided with an utterly sterile 45 minutes of football.

Russell Slade elected to stick to his tried and tested front trio of Sestanovich, Reddy and Parkinson, with former Crewe striker Colin Cramb having to be satisfied with a place on the bench.

Town had a few opportunities to take the lead early in the game. Pinault blasted a shot wide from close range after just 10 minutes. Terry Fleming had earlier had a shot blocked, and a Richard Walker attempt on goal had gone just wide of the post for Rovers.

Veteran full back John McDermott twice went close to scoring. On the first occasion a great ball from Sestanovich saw Macca roll the ball past the 'keeper, only for it to flash across the face of the unguarded goal.

At the other end Town 'keeper Anthony Williams made a superb save from Walker after a mistake by Dean Gordon let him in.

After the break Cramb came on for Reddy, and the Mariners barely created a chance in the second half. In fact the visitors came closest to scoring and could have won the game in the final minute through Jamie Forrester, but his shot was saved by Williams.

Town's unbeaten run is extended to five games, and they can take some consolation from another clean sheet and the fact that they got something from a game they did not play well in - something that was not the case a few weeks ago. Next up are two consecutive away games in the space of a week to struggling Shrewsbury and Chester.

A full report will appear later.
