TOWN'S final Lincolnshire derby of the season ended in a goal-less draw with Scunthorpe. With other results largely going in Scunthorpe's favour, Town failed to dent significantly Scunthorpe's promotion hopes.

Ronnie Bull returned at left back in place of Simon Ramsden. Otherwise the line-up was as that which drew 2-2 at Notts County last weekend.

Scunthorpe had the best of the few early chances in a typical blood and thunder derby game of ferocious tackles and little goal mouth action. The Iron's best chances were a Paul Hayes flicked header which went just wide, and a close range Butler header from a free kick which went straight at Williams.

Town came back into the game as the first half progressed. Gritton set up Jason Crowe for a tap-in, but the former Pompey utility player blasted it over the cross bar. Almost immediately afterwards Musslewhite brilliantly tipped over a Parkinson shot.

Scunthorpe had the better of the chances after the break, but neither team could break the deadlock.

A full report will appear later.
