Bull Reluctantly Heads Back To The UK

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 07/11/2005

THE NZ Knights have today confirmed that former Grimsby full back Ronnie Bull will depart this week for the UK, his contract terminated by mutual consent with regret on both sides.

Bull requested to return home to England for personal reasons, stressing that the decision had nothing to do with the football or the position of the side on the Hyundai A-League table

"It is with great regret that I make this decision but there are genuine reasons for going. Without wishing to go into great detail due to the personal nature of them, the family has not settled in New Zealand despite the best efforts of the club and the management team and we have faced the harsh reality that it is not working out for us here in New Zealand. This is not about the football, it is not about results and it is not about money, it is personal and we have decided to head back to the UK.”

“The club has been fantastic throughout the process with the Manager and Chairman offering great support at a difficult time. It is with regret that I leave, more so with the position we are in at the present. I had every intention of working hard for the gaffer (Adshead) and getting us out of the struggles we are going through at the moment but family must come first on this occasion."

Knights Manager John Adshead is sad to see Bull depart, for reasons on and off the park: "Ronnie will be missed by the club and the team. He is a determined competitor on the park and a great character around the dressing room. We have discussed this for some time and at great length but the lad must do what is right for his family for now. Who knows, we may yet see Ronnie Bull back here one day but for now we wish him well as he returns to the UK."

It is is a difficult time for me but I wish the Manager and the lads all the best for the rest of the season. I believe in John and the club's ability to ride the storm and build something special here at the Knights. It hasn't worked out so far like any of us wanted but I'm sure the club can come good in the future. Rest assured, had we been top of the table, my decision would reluctantly be the same, this is something I am doing for my family and I hope people will respect that." Bull has requested privacy as he prepares to head back home and will make no further statement.
