Glen Sees Red

CENTRE back Glen Downey was shown the red card during the reserves' 4-0 hammering at home to Doncaster Rovers this afternoon. The former Scarborough defender was dismissed for a professional foul after just 36 minutes.

Downey will probably be suspended from the first team as a result, but is unlikely to be missed as he has played less than 90 minutes of competitive football in over a year at Blundell Park.

On the plus side star defender Rob Jones made a successful return following an operation on a groin injury, and looks certain to start at home to Rochdale next Tuesday night.

Russell Slade also gave a run out to trialist striker Danny Wright, currently playing for Dereham Town in the Eastern Counties Premier Division. Wright has scored 15 goals this season for the Norfolk outfit, who are managed by former Mariner Rob Taylor.

The reserves have now lost 8 out of 9 of their Pontins Holidays League Division One East fixtures, with the ninth match being a 0-0 draw, and are rooted to the foot of the table.

Reserve Fixtures.
