Club Statement On Banning Orders

By: GTFC
Date: 26/10/2006

THE Grimsby Telegraph recently described how a recent report on hooliganism pointed to Grimsby Town as the leading club in banning orders against fans. In response to this report, the club have issued the following statement.

The Club's Statement:

In respect of the article in the Grimsby Telegraph regarding the banning orders on Grimsby Town fans, the club would like clarify a few points.

Town's ground safety officer, Terry Rudrum, said: "The club did not decline to comment, although I was asked for the names and addresses of the people who were the subject of the banning orders which I was not prepared to divulge.

And Mr Rudrum says that most of the figures relate to offences which occurred over two years ago.

He said: "18 out of the 25 banning orders related to one incident, which occurred in April 2004 but did not come to court until last year. Although this was football related it did not take place in Grimsby.

He continued: "The club work very closely with the police and we are pro-active in dealing with fans whose behaviour goes against the Ground Regulations drawn up by the Football Authorities."

A more family friendly atmosphere.

"As a club we are continually striving to make Blundell Park more family friendly and we have several initiatives in place to prevent anti-social behaviour, and to ensure public safety in and around the ground. I believe that the high number of bans is testimony to the fact that the club, through its stewarding operation, and the Police are very effective in this area. "
