Lost At Sea

By: Rob Sedgwick

THE Fishy's postbag has been bulging since the defeat of the Mariners by Torquay on Friday night and Town's subsequent placing in a relegation place. Here's a selection of readers' thoughts:

It was reported at 19.45 hours today Friday 26 January 2007 that the M.V. Grimsby Town ran aground off the coast of Devon just off Torquay.

The crew of 11 together with five passengers and captain Alan Buckley abandoned ship long before the women, children and rats on board fled the stricken vessel. The first goal leaked in shortly after the ship ran aground at approximately 19.48 hrs. A few hundred Devon souls turned out to witness the event and made off with a further three goals before the coastguard arrived to close off the beach.Within ninety minutes the vessel sank into the icy waters of the Conference.

The search for survivors will continue at first light tomorrow but it's feared all hope has gone. Members of H.M. Inspectors of wrecks will also visit the scene to see if there is anything worth salvaging but it is feared anything of value has already been looted by other clubs.

The Ancient Mariner

I was a big fan of Buckley for what he did for the club and defended him when he was unjustly fired BUT time has passed AB by and it is time to fire him, this time justifiably. I cannot see the club surviving if they end up in the Conference and the club can kiss the new ground goodbye. I put full blame on the directors who have always done things on the cheap when hiring managers like Groves, Law, Slade, Rodger and now AB who conveniently still lived in Grimsby. When will they ever learn? The club is dire straits and it will take a miracle to survive
