Bloomer Returns

CAMBRIDGE defender Matt Bloomer has returned to the Mariners for the third time, as Alan Buckley sought to strengthen his defence before the January transfer-deadline passed. Grimsby-born Bloomer left Town in 2001, but return for three games last season on loan from Lincoln.
Blooms was released by Lincoln in the summer, after which he moved to Conference outfit Cambridge United in the close season. Former League side United, who are struggling to avoid relegation from the Conference, have released Bloomer, allowing Alan Buckley to snap up the 29-year-old.
The versatile defender can play in a central or right back position, but at most of his clubs Bloomer has functioned as a squad player, only really getting any sort of regular football with Keith Alexander at Lincoln. Consequently the six footer has only made 101 league appearances in a decade spent as a professional footballer.
