New Captain
New Captain

Whittle Honoured To Be Skipper.

By: Bill Osborne
Date: 15/08/2007

JUSTIN Whittle who has taken over the captaincy from John McDermott says his new role is a big honour. Whittle is still struggling with injuries but despite that he is happy to take over his new role.

Speaking to the Grimsby Telegraph he said: "It is a huge honour to not only captain a club like Grimsby, but also to take over from someone like Macca who is a legend in these parts."

"It is something I'm proud of."

On the upcoming season he said: "My legs haven't quite gone yet! I am not going to kid myself that I am not getting any younger but you just adapt your game. You use your head a bit more and know when to conserve energy."

"As a youngster, you chase everything and run yourself into the ground but you have to be wiser when you get older - it happens to all players when they get into their mid-thirties."

"I still feel okay and am certain my experience can help the team out this season as we look to improve on last year.

"It all starts again on Saturday and I can't wait.

"This year - especially as club captain - I want to see us have a real go."
