Is There a Future For Grimsby?

A few years ago I entered Grimsby and saw a road sign which said University, Crematorium and Coastal attractions. Little did I realise that this could be a portent for the future.

Oxford and Cambridge are in the Conference, and although Grimsby does not have a real University, it does not need Morse to work out that Grimsby could easily join them next year. Unfortunately the present management seemed to have burnt their boats and the ashes of a once proud club could be the only thing which moves to Great Coates.

As to coastal attractions supporting Grimsby is as scary as the big wheel. Although England copied us the other night by not turning up, just as we did at Cardiff, we cannot blame an influx of foreign players as we never played the good ones e.g. Kalala. What both Grimsby and England can do is look at how they develop young players: neither have anything to lose. Grimsby have a nucleus of promising but unfinished players. They will flourish if they are played regularly with 4 to 5 seasoned pros. Team selection and formations are confusing and will not encourage young talent to come to Grimsby.

The Butlers, Rankins and assorted loanees are not the answer. Look at the leading scorers in League 2: Lester, Boulding, Gritton and no Grimsby player in sight. Let North, Taylor, Bore have their head with Jones on a regular basis and maybe a name will appear. If the present management want to live in the past then replace them with people with something to prove and who are really ambitious. The future is not bright and although Lincoln has a university and also seem destined for the drop let them go to Oxbridge and make sure we don't
