Buckley Delighted

GRIMSBY boss Alan Buckley was delighted at the three points secured at Brentford on Saturday when Town - thanks to a well-taken goal by Gary Jones - ground out a 1-0 win, their second successive away victory in the league.
Town had a terrible match on Tuesday night at home to Darlington when they were crushed 4-0 by the Quakers and there were rumours that Buckley might lose his job if Town lost the crunch game against the struggling Bees on Saturday.
Buckley said: "Everybody connected with the club were very low on Tuesday. We have had a lot of soul-searching and a lot of hard work since then. I set a team up and, for once, I didn't have to change the system."
Buckley restored first choice 'keeper Phil Barnes in goal and kept faith with front pair Gary Jones and Danny North. Nick Hegarty also came in for the suspended Tom Newey as Town once again played the 3-5-2 system which had been successful in the Barnet win and in the first half at Huddersfield.
Buckley said: "They kept their discipline well, were very competitive and quite aggressive. We didn't play football like I know we can but, after last Tuesday, it was important to just try and get something.
"Jonah scored a terrifically-taken goal for us and you can't ask for more from the players really. We had a good following behind the goal and they went home happy.
"I had told the players that when they go out there onto the pitch they have to do as much as they possibly can to win a game of football. They did that today,
"You cannot ask for more in terms of desire or work-rate. It is a terrific away win for us."
Town now have an equally big game at home to Mansfield on Saturday, where expectations will be high against the Stags, who like Town have had made a poor start to the season. Former Grimsby Player of the Season Mick Boulding will return to Blundell Park as Mansfield's leading scorer.
