The Opposition

Overview

Could this really be happening, could Lincoln be bored of the play-offs already? God knows why they usually enjoy them as well. One place behind us in the league they've been able to hall their keisters off bottom and out of the relegation zone, knowing a 3-0 win will help them climb above us and onward to the play-offs like a stuttering space shuttle heading to Mars or at least Manby. Since the emotional scenes at Bradford on Boxing day where Lincoln just missed out on a point for their endeavours supporters of the Imps can find hope in a team starting to spit and show some fire after a shocking start to the season. The departure of Schofield and the arrival of Jackson (left) has ignited a mini revival at Sincil Bank with 3 wins in 4 in the league only to see the run crushed by Darlington 4-0 last week.

The Team
With Jackson allowed back on the bench last week after a two match suspension from the dugout he can count on a nearly fully fit team ready for the local derby after several injuries at the back. Not much has changed for the Imps since Town travelled down to Sincil Bank in the early season. Up front they still count on Dodds (left) and Wright to supply the firepower and Frecklington is the midfield maestro hoping to provide the spark for what has been a struggling midfield quartet. At the back the experience of Croft and Green is expected to hold their own with Smith between the sticks. That’s pretty much it though having a team with experience and pace Jackson is still scratching his head to understand how they aren't up the right end of the table.

Key Player
Lee Frecklington. The former Lincoln youth player is going to be hard to keep hold of this season. Brought up through the youth system by Schofield himself the 21-year-old has set Lincoln’s midfield alight since playing against Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in 2003. Scoring regularly last season his goals this season will be essential to Lincoln’s survival. The local born player has also been touted by some top clubs and was placed in the PFA’s team of the season last year.

    Town recorded their first win of the season in September at Sincil Bank in their seventh game. A rare Justin Whittle goal set them on their way, before a penalty by Toner restored Town's lead after Jamie Forrester had equalised just before half time.
