Butler Set to Leave?

By: Rob Sedgwick
Date: 16/01/2008

STRIKER Martin Butler may be set to leave Blundell Park, reports the Grimsby Telegraph today. According to the paper, the 33-year-old is fed up of travelling to Cleethorpes from his home in Worcester, and may be lining up a move to League One side Crewe before the end of the month.

Butler was initially signed on loan as The Answer the Grimsby's then striking problems. After five games in which the former Reading frontman failed to get a shot on target never mind a goal, he was eventually left out the side, initially due to injury. Since then Grimsby have essentially sorted out their striking problem in house, with the Jones-North partnership currently blooming, although Butler did manage his first goal in a rare start in the 1-1 draw at Stockport before Christmas.

Grim Rob Says: How much truth there is in this story remains to be see. However Grimsby probably have more surplus strikers than in any other position, so it is debatable whether we even needed Butler in the first place. If his wages are as much as rumoured then let's get rid of him and spend the money getting Rob Atkinson as a permanent Grimsby Town player.
